Deane's 2009 Motorcycle Trip

South Africa

Nov 21, Oudtshoorn to

Cape Agulhas

 Day 15 - 340Km (210) Miles

Today was a run to the farthest point South on the African Continent!!!

The cape was named by Portuguese navigators in about the year 1500, when they noticed that the needles of the magnetic compass were pointed also to true north.  They named it Cabo del Agulhas -- Portuguese for "Cape of the Needles".  Here the Indian Ocean (to the left in the photo) meets the Atlantic Ocean (to the right in the photo)

This was one of the major goals of this tour; to ride our motorcycles to Cape Agulhas.

And here we are:

From left to right.

Clive and Lyn, Rose and Andy, and Deane.  (Our two guides, Darryl and Jonathon, have been here a few times, bringing biker tourists like us to Cape Agulhas.)
