Deane, Norm, and Kay's Motorcycle / RV Trip to Northern Canada and Alaska | |
September 2, Delta Junction, AK to Fairbanks, AK - 117 Miles |
We got rained on pretty heavily getting to Fairbanks, but after getting there it gradually turned into a beautiful sunny day. Today in Fairbanks, a city of 30,000, was a re-supply, re-stock, do maintenance day, prior to heading for the far, far North. In a sense, this has always been the mission of Fairbanks. So Norm was off to purchase new tires for the ones punctured on the Dempster Highway and in construction, Kay did laundry and grocery shopped to re-stock the larder, and Deane found the Honda dealer to get oil and do an oil and filter change. We really covered the town with our errands. In the meantime, Kay had contacted friends, Tom and Jeanie, who work in Fairbanks with the FAA in Air Traffic Control, and arranged for us to leave the Gold Wings with them. Tom is a motorcyclist also, so they were happy to give us space to store our Gold Wings and to watch over them. We enjoyed getting to know them and a learning a little about the Fairbanks area. Then out from the trailer came the other two motorcycles, the Suzuki V-Strom for Deane and the Honda Pacific Coast for Norm. Ready for gravel roads! One last thing for Norm was to change oil in the motor home engine. After a busy day we were all ready for the next adventure - North to Prudhoe Bay!! |
