Deane, Norm, and Kay's Motorcycle / RV Trip to Northern Canada and Alaska | |
|
September 26, Riggins, Idaho to Jackpot, Nevada - 335 Miles |
|
Coming down the canyons of the Salmon River, and through the beautiful forest area of New Meadows, we took a break at the resort town McCall, Idaho.
Then down the Payette River, we rode in very steep canyons, some well forested and some very dry and rugged. This was Deane's old stomping grounds, having been born and raised in Idaho.
On down in Boise, we met two of Deane's brothers, Rich and Gary, and Riche's wife Glenna, for a long lunch. Deane had visited with them when he came to Boise to his 50th Class reunion, so a short visit was enough, and on we went. For the Wildlife Report, as we rode on the Interstate south of Boise, Norm saw several deer just on the other side of the fence, in a desert area. Deane thought they were Mule Deer. Later, Deane spotted two deer getting a drink, standing on the shore of a small reservoir. We had planned to ride back to Albuquerque by way of Salt lake city, but changed our minds to ride south through Nevada. Kay hadn't driven in Nevada, and while Norm had been in a piece of Nevada, he hadn't traveled far there. So Deane wanted to show them the Nevada landscape, long roads, and beauty of the desert. We wound up the day in Jackpot, Nevada, a gambling town on the border of Idaho and Nevada. None of the three of us are gamblers, so they didn't get our money, but we got their good but inexpensive buffet, with way too much dessert. |
