Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Alaska

July 13 - Liard Hot Springs, BC to Whitehorse, YT - 400 miles

YIPPEE - Here we are, in the Yukon Territory

The day's ride was great again, with good weather, sunshine in the morning and getting cloudy in the afternoon, but no rain.

We crossed over the Continental Divide, with beautiful mountains having patches of snow up high.  So, we are on the western side of the Continental Divide for the first time since we left the US.

We rode over three more bridges with the "grating" type of bridge surface.  One of them was a long, loooong bridge over a BIG river.  That was a little scary, but our technique worked well, and we made it without incident.

The inspiration for the day was when we met two "old" motorcyclists (but young at heart) at "Jakes Crossing" in the Yukon.  They were at least five years older than we, in their 70's, and they had ridden their BMW motorcycles from Orlando, Florida, on their way to Alaska!!  They were an inspiration.

We crossed more of the "great rivers" of northern Canada,  and are they ever beautiful.  Up here, they really have RIVERS!!  One of them we followed from the time it started as glacier melt to the time it was a quarter of a mile wide!

For the Wildlife Report, we only saw one Black Bear.  Ol' Eagle Eye Norm spotted the bear in the cleared area near the road.  (Deane just saw a burned out stump that "sorta looked like a bear".)

Next, its on to Dawson City, home of the 1898 Gold Rush.
