Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Alaska

August 3 - Touring Vancouver, BC

Today was completely devoted to just being tourists in Vancouver, BC.  Both of us have been here before, and we both like the city and its beautiful setting.

To get a really good view of the "inner harbor" of Burrard Inlet, onto which most of the city faces, we rode through downtown Vancouver and out to Stanley Park.

What beautiful views of the city, ships and small boats coming and going, and a surprising number of float planes coming and going.

Vancouver is one of the most beautiful sea ports anywhere!

We also went to the "Capilano Suspension Bridge", a tourist attraction for many, many years.  It is a 430 ft. long foot bridge, spanning a sharp, deep, heavily forested canyon, with the bridge about 250 ft. above the creek below.

We toured the area of North Vancouver, just visiting parks and other places from which to view the bays, inlets, coves, and marinas that were pretty.  A tour along Marine Drive produced views of many upscale homes with views of the marine areas.

Driving through the center of the city the first time was interesting because of the many new buildings to see.

However, having to drive back through to get to our motel was not any fun.  Too many Vancouver drivers are aggressive and nasty.  On a motorcycle, in an unfamiliar big city, one hopes for some polite drivers, but there were almost none in Vancouver.  And the bicycle riders there are just plain suicidal in their cutting in and out.

Overall, though, we still enjoyed this beautiful city.

In our commentary yesterday, we forgot the Wildlife Report.

We finally saw a deer in the wild!!  This was so unusual because in all of our riding in Canada and Alaska so far (5,500+ miles) we have only seen two little deer.  We expected to see many more deer - if I were a deer hunter, I wouldn't spend a lot of time and money going to Canada or Alaska to hunt them.  We also saw wild Canadian Geese though, so that was fun.
