Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Alaska

August 6 - Motorcycle Races in Portland, OR

What do touring motorcyclists do when they want to rest for a day and have some entertainment?  Why, they go to watch motorcycle races, of course!!

It just so happened that while we were in the Portland area, motorcycle road races were being held by Formula USA.

(OK, so I did have prior knowledge of the race schedule for Portland.)

I had been at a prior race series of this group, out at Willow Springs Race Track, in California.

I have become a fan of motorcycle racing, and Norm had never been to motorcycle road races.  So, after visiting friends yesterday, we scheduled a day at Portland International Raceway.

It was fun, partly in seeing all of the preparations being made for individual racers, partly watching the races themselves, and partly seeing the race bikes.

We also watched a stunt rider, who's riding seems to be impossible to even the most fearless motorcyclist.  Even though we got nicely baked while sitting in the sun for a whole day at the track, it was a fun day.

That pretty much took our whole day, so tomorrow it is off to ride alongside the Columbia River.
